I have found that painting landscapes on location not only connects me to something fundamental to my existence but functions as a foundation on which to build an infinite range of aesthetic choices and directions. I believe that landscape painting is a conduit to a common experience shared by all of us and the relationship between the sky, the land and water is as rudimentary as our passage through time.
I work in soft pastel, a medium that can manifest itself as either drawing or painting. The experience of working in pure color is exhilarating and complex- a combination I relish. I find great inspiration and piece of mind working outside and on location. The range of visual information combined with the physical experience opens my imagination and a desire to share the participation.
Beyond the formal benefits and explorations of painting the landscape, I’m still invested in telling a good story.
